Kendo is a one-on-one individual competition. Victory or defeat is your responsibility, and you cannot pass on that responsibility to anyone else. It is therefore about training yourself.
It's a one-on-one competition, so you have to confront your opponent. Practising in intimacy with the other person is useful in life other than kendo. Real life, such as how to be surprised and suspicious of the opponent, how to take advantage of the opponent's chances to collide, how to maintain normal mind, immobility, overcome your own mind and seize opportunities. If you look at it in terms of human relationships and work, there are many useful things.
In training to use a sword, you are able to overcome the fear of being slashed and jump into it with a sword and slash the opponent. Many sword masters became Japanese leaders, especially in the late Tokugawa period and early Meiji era, and it is thought that this was because they had strong minds as they practised the sword. The master of the sword has always practised self-discipline, including the formation of Zazen.
For the above reasons, kendo has no relation with age. This is because not only physical strength and skill but also mental strength is important. Kendo is a training course that strengthens your life.
